29 Jun OH TO BE RECKLESS AND IRRESPONSIBLE!!

Do you ever get this spontaneous urge to be reckless and irresponsible?
OMG what’s that about?
Have you ever had that feeling where you wanted to be spontaneous and do something out of character? Where predictability as a mother, a wife, an ‘adult’ was a word that you didn’t align with and where the thought of being unpredictable sounded way more appealing?
One day I’d had enough of doing it all (well all that I can in a day) and trying to be all things to all people and least of all being all things to myself. It felt like I was drowning in the feeling of overwhelm and frustration of the repetition in my life.
Side note: I have a wonderful life and one that I’m grateful for every day, but in that moment, the thought of, ‘here we go again’, took all the gratitude away.
And I’ll bet I’m not the only person who sometimes feels like this. Am I right? That this is normal and will pass?
And it did. I got over it and the domestic duties were completed. Good girl. But it did get me thinking how quick I could go in and out of thinking and feeling a certain way in a moment and feel completely different 5 minutes later.

Our thoughts create our feelings and emotions which can create feelings of either pleasure or pain in our mind and our body. We can choose to listen to these thoughts and believe them to be true and real for us or we could acknowledge them, see them for what they are (thoughts) and allow them to pass. We have a choice in that moment and I think just having more awareness around what we are thinking, good or bad, can help us in so many ways.

Easier said than done right?

How can we be aware of what we’re thinking?

After all you are human being with a mind that thinks right?

Difficult, YES! Impossible, NO!

Humans are complex beings with a mind that can learn how to think and why we think the way we do. Most times we can’t even remember what we thought about 10, 20, 30 seconds ago; it’s a constant barrage of thoughts. Through a greater awareness of what you’re thinking and how these thoughts make you feel, you can then choose the thoughts you want to hang on to and the ones you need to let go of.

Please don’t ignore your feelings either because they are important indicators to remind you where you’re at mentally and emotionally. Pushing your emotions aside as if they don’t exist isn’t healthy either but knowing how to best deal with them can make you better equipped to handle them when they do arise.
Some small advice I can give you if you ever feel that you have some pent-up emotion that you know you need to deal with but not sure how to is……….

* Acknowledge how you’re feeling?

* Where are you feeling this in your body?

* How is it making you feel?

* Why are you feeling this way?

Your thoughts don’t have to control you. Once you become aware of what you’re thinking, you’re the one in control. You’re the driver steering your thoughts in the direction you want them to go. Acknowledge all thoughts both good and not so good and notice how they make you feel. Be with that feeling for as long as is comfortable for you until it passes. Remember to breathe and relax if you can. As you continue your day, continue to notice the thoughts and feelings that are coming up for you without any attachment. Allow them to pass.
